For Western Pleasure, Batwing,
Half-chaps, English
Deertan cowhides are slighter lighter in weight and
very soft and flexible. On the smooth side there is no
finish so there is no protection from absorbing oils or
dirt. They are more easily stained so for english chaps
using the smooth side out, I would caution you to be aware
of this. To use them for trim would not be as big of a
problem. For western show chaps, they work nicely as they
are lighter and softer and the suede is lovely.
